PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In this series the surface of each large-scale abstract performative painting is a sort of mirror to the artist’s body. With the use of a natural fibre rope the mark-making action is energetic and spontaneous. However with time and concentration it can be organised and coordinated likewise in a sort of silent dance. There is no or little muscle effort. There is no tension as the internal body energy flow is powerful only if the body is soft and flexible. The artist developed this technique from Tai-chi (the martial art also known as art of energy management). As everyone's body uses several energies: pneumatic (breath), hydraulic (circulations), mechanical (muscle & bone) and electromagnetic (nervous system), the artist practices Tai-chi to gather the energies and transfers them to her canvas. Much of the energy conveyed by the marks is inspired by events related to the artist’s life since she started working in her studio in Miami (US), in 2016. References play an important role evident in the painting itself, the composition and the title of each work.
